Here are members of the 'Tanutsu Women' group. They are small-scale businesswomen in Makeni city, in northern Sierra Leone. They have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to request a loan in order to expand their businesses, make more sales, and consequently improve their standard of living.
Aminata K. (second from left) is 35 years old. She was born in Makeni and is married to a businessman. The two of them have 3 children – one in secondary school and two in primary school. Aminata sells margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), salt, sugar, etc. She has been a businesswoman for many years. With her share of the loan, she will buy packets of margi, bags of salt, and bags of sugar.
