A loan helped to purchase wheat flour, cooking oil, and cassava flour.

Sharuwa's story

Sharuwa is 16 years old and lives in the town of Seeta in the Kireka region of Uganda. For the past year, she has been working hard to manage her catering, selling samosas, pancakes, and eggs.

To help expand her business, Sharuwa requested a loan from BRAC Uganda for 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings, which she will use to buy wheat flour, cooking oil, and cassava flour. This loan will help her to generate greater profits and her business will expand, hence more profits. Sharuwa will be able to support her family, thereby improving their standard of living. She hopes that in the future she will be able to open up a restaurant.

Sharuwa is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life skills training.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
