A loan helped to buy green bananas, tomatoes, and onions.

Robinah's story

Robinah is 22 years old and lives in the town of Bulenga in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has two children who are both currently in school.

For the past year, Robinah has been working hard to manage her food stall, which sells fresh food, green bananas, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and onions.

To help expand her business, Robinah has requested a loan of 700,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy green bananas, tomatoes, and onions, and it will help Robinah to generate greater profits. Therefore, she will be able to cater for her family needs and pay school fees for her children, hence improving their standard of living.

Robinah hopes that in the future she will be able to construct a residential house.

Robinah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
