Kati's story

Raised by self-employed parents, I was inspired to define my own path through life. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in fine art ceramics at Towson University and a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. From there I moved to Pittsburgh to work as an Exhibition Coordinator at the Society for Contemporary Craft. While I was there I learned an enormous amount about marketing and running an organization. My supervisor there encouraged me to start my first business, Women’s Work, a small handywoman company. While running the business I also began attending school to become a cardiac sonographer. Entering the medical field had always been a dream of mine and having the flexible schedule that self-employment allowed gave me the opportunity to pursue that dream. For the past 5 years I have been working as a sonographer at the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania. While at times heart-wrenching it is also extraordinarily rewarding. But I still wanted to work for myself! The concept of Brambler Boutique emerged while on I was on maternity leave. In April 2015 we used a $5,000 Kiva loan to open our store. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Kiva again and excited to see the next few years unfold!

This loan is special because:

It helps a female entrepreneur purchase inventory in order to increase sales.
