Nuuru's story

Nuuru is 20-years-old and lives in the town of Kasangati in the Kasangati region of Uganda. For the past 2 years, Nuuru has been working hard to manage her fast foods business, where she sells cooked food like chips and chicken.

To help expand her business, Nuuru has requested a loan of 600,000 UGX (Ugandan Shillings) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy cooking oil, Irish potatoes, and a charcoal stove and will help Nuuru to generate greater profits. Nuuru lives with both her parents, so the profits from the business will enable her take care of her parents, assist them in paying house bills, and providing basic needs for her family like food thereby improving on their standards of living. Nuuru hopes that in the future she will be able to open a restaurant in order to create jobs, and to generate more profits.

Nuuru is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities.
