A loan helped to purchase more soda, juice and cakes for her food stall and be able to pay school fees.


Robinah's story

Robinah is 25 years old and lives in the town of Luwero in the Luwero region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children with one of them currently in school. For the past 6 years, Robinah has been working hard to manage her food business, which sells soda, juice and cakes.

To help expand her business, Robinah has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more soda, juice and cakes, and will help Robinah to generate greater profits. The profits will be used by Robinah in paying school fees for her children, paying house bills like electricity and providing basic needs for her family like food thereby improving on their standards of living.

Robinah hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a cow and increase on the number of her pigs. She also wants to buy hens to increase her income.



Robinah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities.
