A loan helped to buy raw material such as fancy rexine, zippers and decoration materials for sewing her wallets, then directly selling into the market.

Shazia's story

SHAZIA, a 39-year-old mother of four, lives in the area of Lahore, Pakistan. Her husband works in a small firm, while SHAZIA sews wallets along with her daughter and son at home to generate income for the entire family. She has two sewing machines operated by her daughter. Her son deals with customers, takes orders, and sews wallets on order.

To maximize profits, SHAZIA wants to sell her wallets directly in the market, but she does not have sufficient capital to buy the required raw materials. She has therefore requested a loan from Kiva’s field partner BRAC Pakistan to buy materials such as rexine, zippers and decoration materials. SHAZIA thanks Kiva and BRAC Pakistan for their support.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Pakistan.
