Aidah's Group is comprised of two hard-working women. Aidah is 19 years old and lives in the town of Wakiso in the Nansana region of Uganda. For the past four years, Aidah has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells items like sugar, soap and maize flour.
To help expand her business, Aidah has requested a share of 2,400,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more soap, sugar and maize flour and will help Aidah to generate greater profits. She will use the profits made by the business to pay school fees for her sister, pay for her school requirements, pay house bills like electricity and water, and provide basic needs for her family like clothing and food, thereby improving on their standards of living. Aidah hopes that in the future, she will be able to become a wholesaler in order to generate more revenue.
Aidah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
