The members of the Démé group are women with an average age of 50 years and two children. They live with their husbands and children in large traditional families in the village of Konobougou, in the district of Barouéli, in the region of Ségou, in the Republic of Mali. They met each other through being neighbors and sharing a common interest in retail. They sell a variety of materials/products and collaborate with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to ensure constant financial support for their activities. They are currently on their second group loan, the first of which was correctly reimbursed. This new loan will allow them to purchase food condiments and a large quantity of diverse articles such as manufactured productions. These products are largely purchase din Bamako and re-sold at the open air markets and on the side of the road to a clientele of both women and men. They hope to each make a monthly profit of approximately 25,000 FCFA [approximately 57 USD], which would be used to purchase food, health products and towards other activities.
