A loan helped to buy more sand, bricks and quarry stones.

Matida's story

Matida is 23 years old and lives in the town of Kasubi in the Nansana region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children, with one of them currently in school. For the past 3 years, Matida has been working hard to manage her construction materials business, which sells bricks and sand.

To help expand her business, Matida has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more sand, bricks and quarry stones, and will help Matida to generate greater profits.

Matida will use the profits made by the business to assist her husband in paying school fees for her children and providing basic needs for her family like food and medical care, thereby improving on their standards of living.

Matida hopes that in the future she will be able to become a powerful businesswoman.

Matida is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
