Fridah's Group is made up of 5 hardworking women. Fridah is 21 years old and lives in the town of Kireka, in the Kireka region of Uganda. She is married and has one child who is currently in school. For the past 3 years, Fridah has been working hard to manage her retail business, which sells sugar and soft drinks.
To help expand her business, Fridah has requested a share of 2,700,000 Ugandan Shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more sugar and soft drinks like soda. It will help Fridah to generate greater profits and expand her business.
Increased profits for Fridah means that she will be able to provide more basic needs at home, support her children, pay the respective school dues, and improve her family's general standards of living. Fridah hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her retail shop to a wholesale shop.
Fridah is a member of BRAC Uganda's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
