Sarah's story

Steve and I both grew up in the southeastern United States. While we were exposed to farm life through summer jobs and nearby farm operations, we never dreamed that one day we would build a farm business. We met in college and were married almost ten years later, in 2005. We have two young children, ages 10 and 7.
In April of 2009, we moved to Washington for a job in Steve's field (one far removed from agricultural fields), but the position ended after two years. As we tried to decide what to do in this new regional area, with no career-path job in sight, we decided in January 2012, to take a giant leap and accept an opportunity to help a friend who owns an apple orchard by managing his farm for a few years while he was away. The orchard owner graciously offered to let us work some of his fallow land, so in the spring of 2012 we started Triple Wren Farms and worked hard together to learn the basics of field crop farming in the Pacific Northwest.
We have discovered through this unexpected adventure that we deeply love farming. We love having our children grow up close to the land, knowing where their food comes from. We have named our farm business after a play on their names because their financial future, and more importantly their future adult roles in the world-community, most highly motivate us to continue farming.
