A loan helped to stock patterns of clothes to make new dresses for resale.


Zamu's story

Zamu is 16 years old and lives in the town of Nakifuma in the Kasangati region of Uganda. For the past 1 year, Zamu has been working hard to manage her Tailoring, which extends to tailoring clothes and sells clothes as well.



To help expand her business, Zamu has requested a loan of 600,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock patterns of clothes to make new dresses for resale, also stock more clothes to boost business. It will help Zamu to generate greater profits and business will expand, profits will increase, Zamu will be in position to improve the standards of living, support her siblings and pay the respective school dues as well. Zamu hopes that in the future she will be able to establish a tailoring school, help teaching school-girl dropouts so they can have a better life.



Zamu is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
