A loan helped to purchase some yam seeds to grow in her plantation business and to also buy an iron roof to renovate her home.

Melisuana's story

Melisuana is 37 years old. She lives with her husband and their four children. Her husband works as a carpenter while Melisuana took a loan to run a plantation business to help them for a living. Melisuana used her loan to buy some yam seeds to grow. Her plantation includes taro, tapioca and yam. It's located in her village and her husband helps a lot, supporting the running of the plantation.

Last February, Tonga was struck by the most intense cyclone on record. Sadly this caused damage to Melisuana's plantation. She faces a business challenge of a lack of funds. She's borrowing money from close family and friends for income because of the cyclone.

She's currently recovering her business to earn some more income to help her family and support her children.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
