A loan helped to buy new chairs, rice, sugar, more meat, and plates.

Ajibe's story

Ajibe is 22 years old and lives in the town of Kaliro in the Iganga region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children, with 1 of them currently in school. For the past 3 years, Ajibe has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food.

To help expand her business, Ajibe has requested a loan of 1,500.000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy new chairs, rice, sugar, more meat, and plates, and will help Ajibe to generate greater profits. From the higher profits, Ajibe will afford basic needs at home, cater for her children, and pay the respective school dues, thereby improving the standard of living.

Ajibe hopes that in the future she will be able to expand the restaurant and increase her revenue.

Ajibe is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
