Mebo's story

Get to know Mebo, a humble woman from Kitale, a small and humble village. Her two joys are her family and her farming business. This nice woman is a catalyst for societal growth. She distributes milk and eggs to her neighbours, enabling them to feed their children with nutritious food. Mebo (pictured above in her house) also grows crops that she sells to her neighbours and the local market. Her motive is to earn profit, which she saves and uses to educate her children. Mebo gets the satisfaction of working independently and of the profits she enjoys.

In Kenya agriculture is one of the most competitive industries, especially due to the high costs of operations necessary to improve farming. Such costs include the cost of land acquisition and inputs which have skyrocketed. To meet the high costs of inputs, farmers have been forced to borrow from financial institutions, which sometimes impose very complicated procedures in loan distribution. Some farmers and especially women end up in hopelessness, despondency and lack of morale to invest in agriculture.

Mebo is seeking a loan to purchase quality farm inputs. She will use the money from your loan to buy important inputs, such as high quality seeds and rich nutrients fertilizers. Mebo is optimistic that this year's harvest will be better than last season's. Her income from the dairy business will be used to make initial loan repayments until the crops are harvested and sold.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
