A loan helped to purchase a water filtration system to provide clean drinking water for the students.

Unity Premier Secondary School's story

Greetings from Uganda! This is Julius, the Director of Unity Premier School, a mixed school with 540 students in the rural area of Soroti.

Unity Premier School has requested a loan to cover the cost of installing and maintaining a UV water filtration system to provide clean drinking water for its students. The school does not have consistent access to clean drinking water and therefore has to spend a considerable portion of its budget on firewood for boiling water for the children. Installing a water filtration system will save the school money in the long term, as the cost of firewood will be reduced.

This loan will enable the school to purchase a UV water treatment system with a 450-litre tank, which will be big enough to store enough clean drinking water for the students to have every day.

Unity Premier School will repay this loan from school fees, which it collects each term. Julius hopes ultimately that access to safe drinking water will improve students' concentration and attendance, in that it will reduce the number of children who fall sick from water-borne diseases and increase the number of students who come to school.

This loan is special because:

It gives students and staff safe drinking water.
