A loan helped a member to buy flasks of cofal, along with turkeys, chickens, a few pigs, and goats.

Las Florecitas De Pachaj Group's story

Friendship Bridge has a unique program called "Microcredit Plus", a winning combination of small loans and monthly educational meetings with topics that range from effective business practices (planning, budgeting, investing and savings) to health, nutrition, hygiene and the use of medicinal plants. The topics are provided by a Facilitator who engages the women clients with diagrams, photos, role-playing and games, since most have little or no formal education.

This is the case of the nine Maya K’iche’ women who live in rural Totonicapán & formed the Trust Bank “Las Florecitas De Pachaj”. They are beginning their third loan cycle with Kiva and look forward to infusing new funds into their businesses raising/selling animals, or selling bananas, or natural medicines.

The Treasurer of the Trust Bank is 25-year-old Ana who has a second grade education. She has three children (2-7 years). The eldest child is in the first grade. Ana has a small business selling a medicinal herb "cofal", besides raising animals to increase her income. She is requesting a loan to buy flasks of cofal, along with turkeys, chickens, a few pigs, and goats.

The partnership between Kiva and Friendship Bridge is crucial to generating positive opportunities & development for the 22,000 clients served throughout Guatemala who want to step out of poverty into a brighter future for themselves and their families. Thank you, Kiva investors, for your kindness & generosity!
