A loan helped to buy more sacks of sugar and rice and tailoring materials for her business.

Nusifa's story

Nusifa is 18 years old, and she lives in the town of Kasangati in the Kasangati region of Uganda.

For the past two years, Nusifa has been working hard to manage her tailoring and retail shop, which sells clothes, rice, beans, and drinks.

To help expand her business, Nusifa has requested a loan of UGS 900,000 from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more sacks of sugar and rice and tailoring materials so her business can run vigorously. That will help Nusifa to generate greater profits.

It will enable Nusifa afford more basic needs and medical and to be in a position to take care of her family and also support her mother to pay school fees for her siblings. Nusifa hopes that in the future she will be able to expand the tailoring business.

Nusifa is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
