A loan helped to purchase a solar power system for her house.

Amel's story

Amel, 34 years old, is a married woman who lives with her husband and a child in a small rented house in Sana’a, Yemen.

Amel is an example of a hardworking woman who tries to balance her professional life with her responsibilities as a wife and the mother of a young child. She has worked in the private sector for about six years in order to help her husband secure a decent life for her family. Together her husband’s and her salaries hardly cover the house rent and basic expenses of the family. Amel and her family suffer a lot from the absence of public electricity due to the current conflict in the country. She has been thinking of purchasing a solar power system for long time, but she couldn’t afford one.

When she heard that Al-Amal Microfinance Bank is providing interest-free loans for purchasing solar power systems, she applied for a 127,000 YER loan from the bank to purchase a 150W solar panel, a 150 amp battery, and a 30 amp solar charge controller.

Amel is looking forwards improving the living conditions of her family.

This loan is special because:

It provides clean energy to people affected by violence in Yemen.
