A loan helped a member to purchase a solar light and increase maize cultivation.

Catherine's Group's story

Pictured above is Catherine, often described as an extremely trustworthy person. She is 28 years old and is representing her group of nine farmers in Teso District, Kenya. She is married and has three children.

Catherine is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund as this means that she is able to make more farmer friends in her community, which is why she decided to join in the first place.

Catherine says that she is happy to have made that decision because, since she joined in 2016, she has learned a lot from farm training sessions, which has improved her day-to-day life significantly. Catherine will use the profits from this season to buy a cow.

The group will use this loan to purchase seed and fertilizer to plant a total of 5 acres. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of five solar lights.

In this group: Catherine, Dorcus, Khetirika, Lydia, Mildred, Benson, Prisilla, Protus, Udson

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
