A loan helped to purchase more Cassava,beans and raw bananas(matooke) to resell in her food stall.


Reacheal's story

REACHEAL is 19 years old and lives in the town of Buwama in the Kyegera region of Uganda. For the past 3 years, REACHEAL has been working hard to manage her food stall, which sells raw food such as cassava, sweet potatoes and raw bananas(matooke).



To help expand her business, REACHEAL has requested a loan of 1000000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more Cassava, beans and raw bananas(matooke) to meet her customers demands. The loan will help REACHEAL to generate greater profits, which enables her to provide food and clothes for her siblings. REACHEAL hopes that in the future she will be able to open up a big restaurant to create more jobs in her community, and increase on her profits too.



REACHEAL is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
