Aye (first from the left in the photo), a widow of fifty-eight, lives with seven household members (including six children). For a living, Aye’s family operates multiple businesses such as rice farming, duck raising, and running a betel plantation. Extra income is earned by her daughter, who is a tailor. Aye requested a loan from Kiva to support the growth of her livestock. She will purchase high-quality duck feed that will keep her ducks in a healthy condition to produce more eggs, thereby boosting her family income.
