A loan helped to buy soil amendments and to do the agricultural labor on his coffee farm for an organic fair-trade crop.

Modesto's story

Modesto, 56, lives in the Cruz de Chalpón community in the province of San Ignacio, Peru, with his wife and one of his seven children. He has carried out his current two jobs, growing coffee and small-scale ranching, for 20 years.

The loan will allow Modesto to weed his three hectares of organic and fair-trade coffee in such a way as to ensure delivery of the crop to his Cenfrocafe cooperative.

Modesto's dream is that later, when his crop is bigger, he'll be able to save enough money for his children to continue to get an education. He has been a member of Norandino for eight years and has always been responsible with his commitments.
