A loan helped to invest in a bulk purchase of wood and finishing supplies.

Seji's story

Seji, who carries on the craft of her late husband, Taram (pictured at center), is an artisan from Indonesia who specializes in hand-carved sculptures. She would like to invest in a bulk purchase of wood and finishing supplies.

Seji has been selling through NOVICA since 2000. This is her story:

"I'll always remember what my husband said before he died," Seji confides. "He wanted me to carry on caring wisely for our children, and he also encouraged me to be a stronger woman for our children's sake. Now I continue his designs, as well as create my own new designs."

"I feel grateful to have this chance to get a loan from Kiva. It's such great support for me as I was not sure that I could do all of this alone when my lovely husband passed away. With hard work and support from my children and the carvers, I have no doubt that there is future for my children and also the families of all my carvers. Thanks for your continuous support."
