Kyaw (second from the left) is 38 years old, married and has three daughters. He is the featured borrower of this group representing the other loan villagers; Kan, Chirt, Mya and Cho. They are from Mya Taung-1 (A) Village Group in Myingyan Township.
To provide for his family, Kyaw has 2 acres of farm land growing sesame and green gram. He also has a goat farm where he is breeding goats that he sells as meat at the market. With the income from these activities he is able to support his children’s education costs and his family's everyday expenditures. Kyaw requested this Kiva loan as he will repair goat fencing as his goats need safe shelters to protect them from extreme weather.
This village group is located in Myanmar's dry zone, where insufficient rainfall is very common. Agriculture is the major business of the villagers around this area. Apart from farming, people raise livestock, namely cows, pigs and goats. These animals can help on the farm, as their manures can be used as a natural fertilizer and their offspring can be sold for additional income.
