A loan helped to acquire farming supplies to be sold to farmers and used by himself.

Paulo's story

Paulo is a 53-year-old married farmer who lives with his 10 family members in Manica, Mozambique. Paulo and his wife have been growing corn, peppers and onions for more than 29 years on their three-acre field.

Besides his three acres of land, Paulo raises cows and goats and his family helps him with everything. They will help him with the corn he will be planting and harvesting to improve their quality of living and also pay for the loan made to buy the seeds. Paulo’s plan for the loan also includes selling seeds for harvest and fertilizers to small farm holders.

Paulo is a happy, dedicated and responsible man who believes that agriculture is the base of development for a farmer. He is proud of his line of work even though he does not get enough funding. His plan for the future is to keep producing crops to take care of his family.

Because of his father, all this became a reality; he mirrored him in the area of agriculture.

Paulo will provide a down payment upon receipt of the loan. The loan will also be partially matched by an in-kind credit of agricultural input supplies and equipment by a local private company, Luteari. The partnership between small entrepreneurs like Paulo and private businesses represents an important link in the community and will not only have a positive impact for him, but also for local farmers who will gain access to his supplies and services.

This loan is special because:

It allows farmers access to new markets and agricultural resources.
