A loan helped to meet urgent household needs such as food and clothing.

Yahuza's story

Yahuza is a Babban Gona maize farmer from Mai Audiga village with big dreams. In addition to farming, he hopes to diversify his income and support his family and community by opening an agro-dealer shop with the profit from his 2016 harvest. As a Babban Gona member, he has seen the importance of quality inputs and hopes to make this accessible to other farmers in his community through his agro-dealer shop.

At harvest, Yahuza will get crucial harvest support such as the renting of a threshing machine that will among other services offered by Babban Gona, ensure Yahuza’s maize is of the highest quality and can fetch the highest price and, as a result, generate good earnings for him.

With Babban Gona’s support, Yahuza will store his maize at harvest and sell it for up to 40% higher than the market price. With his maize stored, Yahuza can generate earnings of up to $1,000/hectare, more than four times the average Nigerian farmer’s annual income.

Through this loan, known as a harvest advance loan, Yahuza will receive a cash advance, equal to the price of maize at harvest. This allows him to meet pressing household needs while Babban Gona stores his maize crop to sell in the future at a profit.

With the Harvest advance loan and increased income; Yahuza will now work towards achieving his dreams.

This loan is special because:

It gives farmers flexibility to sell their crops for the best price.
