A loan helped to buy more ‘gari’ to sell to her customers.

Tity's story

Tity is a 45 years and hard-working local business woman. She is married and has 2 children, who are attending school. Tity was a full time parent before she began her business to make her life worth living.
Tity sells ‘gari’ at a busy junction where passers-by often congregate to take transport to other towns and cities. Gari is made from cassava that is grown throughout Sierra Leone. The cassava root is dried and broken up into small ‘gari’ grains. The grains are then boiled into a paste called “acheke” which is served on the side of the plate with the local spicy stews.

Tity works hard during the week and is happy that her sales are ok– given that her business is still quite young. Like many other street traders, Tity would love to grow her business so that she could eventually operate from a larger shop premises.

Tity would like to use this loan to buy more ‘gari’ to sell to her customers. Tity is known to BRAC Sierra Leone as she previously took out a loan and diligently paid it back. Tity would like to thank BRAC Sierra Leone and Kiva for their support in helping her to improve her family’s living conditions.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with access to funding in areas where Ebola has affected businesses.
