A loan helped a member to buy fertilizer, chemicals and seed for her garden. She plans to plant tomatoes, chomolia and rape.

Bethel Group's story

Each morning, Brenda from Chipendo Village, Chihota, a place near the Zimbabwean capital Harare, wakes up before the cock crows to harvest vegetables. Later on, she ties them into bundles, packs them into her baskets and sacks, and arranges tomatoes in big and small boxes. With the help of her husband, she goes to the market to sell and supply her weekly customers in Harare. After collecting cash from her customers, Brenda goes back to her village to cook for her husband and 2 children.

Brenda is 20 years old and has spent most of her time working in her garden and her home. Her wish is to have several gardens to grow vegetables and raise her income to take care of her family and send her children to better schools. She is part of a group called Bethel. They received financial literacy training from Thrive Microfinance. Brenda will use her $250 portion of the loan to buy fertilizer, chemicals, and seed for her garden. She plans to plant tomatoes, chomolia, and rape.
