Ayelatoe is a 60-year-old mother of three children, living in Yarika-Biisi in the upper-east region of Ghana. Ayelatoe is the woman seated first from left in the middle row with a sample product on her lap in the photo. She belongs to a women's group called Amaltinga Yarika-Biisi. Ayelatoe is engaged in the basketry business; the weaving and sale of baskets in her community. She also complements her income through petty trading and has been in business for more than a decade.
Ayelatoe and her group are challenged with inadequate capital as well as irregular disbursement of loans to support their businesses. Meanwhile Ayelatoe dreams of becoming a major supplier of straw to weavers in and around her community.
The group has therefore requested a loan of GHS 5,100. Ayelatoe’s share of the loan is GHS 300 which she will use to buy straw and dye for weaving and decoration of her products (baskets) for sale. She wants to earn good income from the sale to repay this loan and grow her business. Ayelatoe thanks her lenders for their support.
