Hue's story

I own a MAC and PC Repair and Consulting business since 2005. I enjoy helping the business communities to solve their technical issues; however, it was not satisfying enough for me. I discovered a lot of my clients, who upgraded their computers, did not know what to do with their left over computers, so I began to collect them with the hope to distribute them out to kids who do not have a computer for their school work. Then when the business was slow, I took a contract job for a Windows 7 migration project so the Windows XP machines piled up in the company's storage room. Then the fire marshall called and asked the company to move them out. I asked my superior to donate them to my nonprofit RRRComputer.org since the machines were freshly decommissioned. Do you know what they said? NO. I was very shocked – I am a trusted contractor with ties to the local community who simply wanted to refurbish unused computers to low income children but the company continued to refuse.

That experience really upset me but it also inspired me to put more time into RRRcomputer.org. Many companies do the same thing as the Health Care company I worked for. I want to ask the companies and corporations to rethink their computer recycling procedure. Companies can get tax deductible donation credit and it also benefits the low income K-6 kids. Why not do a good deed that benefits all?

With this loan, we would like to expand our marketing to raise awareness about changing the paradigm of recycling computers by diverting them to the hands of children who need them and to increase RRRComputer.org's budget to begin self-sustaining programs that involve STEM education and skills training so we can reach a larger scale of companies and serve more low income K-6 kids.
