Believe In God Group's story

This is Mariatu K., Ramatu C., Ramatu K., Wullamatu K., Adamsay K. and Hassan T.. They have named their group Believe in God. This is a group of local entrepreneurs in Makeni City. This is the fourth time they’ve received a Kiva loan through SMT. Previously, each one of them in the group received a loan of (~US$250) SLL 800,000. Meaningful changes were created in lives of these people with those previous loans. They were able to use the proceeds to pay for their children’s school fees, in cases where times were difficult for their husbands. They also were able to add to the daily allowances that their husbands gave them for food. Today, they are requesting a loan of (US$ 315) SLL 1,000,000, each, to buy more goods to add to their businesses.

Mariatu K. (second from left) is the leader of the group. She is 30 years of age. She was born in Sanda Kamaranka, one of a series of small villages about thirty miles from Makeni. She has four children: one in secondary school, two in primary schools and the last is still quite young. Her husband is a schoolteacher. Mariatu sells ready-to-wear-clothes and has been in the business for three years now.

In this group: Mariatu, Ramatu, Ramatu, Wullamatu, Adamsay, Hassan
