A loan helped a member to pay her children's school tuition fees.

Pisaya 1 Group's story

Merlyn is the featured borrower in Pisaya 1 Group. She is the first lady at the far left side in the picture.

She got together with the other group members to acquire a loan from Kiva's field partner Al Majmoua, because they trust each other, and they became close friends since they came to work as housekeepers (domestic workers) in Lebanon. Leaving their home town in the Philippines was very hard for them, but their families' increasing needs were most important, and they have a challenge to take in order to improve their living.

Merlyn is a 43-year-old single mother of three. Her limited monthly income isn't enough to cover her children's school tuition fees. That's why she decided that her loan share will be sent to her children in the Philippines to pay for their school tuition fees.

As for the other group members, Maria Jesusa is the lady at the center in the picture, who in parallel with her domestic work, manages to sell mobile phone prepaid cards as an additional income; her loan share will be invested in developing her own business. Rosaly will also support her parallel business through purchasing medical herbs and expanding her working sector.

In this group: Merlyn, Rosaly, Maria Jesusa

This loan is special because:
