A loan helped to purchase a battery for her husband's 'Toto' rickshaw to cater to more customers.

Ramija's story

Ramija is an 18-year-old lady who lives in the village named Takagachh in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. She is married and has one infant daughter. Ramija studied until eighth grade and her husband is illiterate and can sign his name only. Ramija is a homemaker who looks after her daughter and manages her household jobs.

Ramija's husband Latif runs a Toto rickshaw (battery operated auto rickshaw). It is a kind of vehicle that is widely used in rural Bengal. He is a driver by profession and provides transportation services using his three-wheeled Toto rickshaw to meet the family’s expenses, but now it requires proper maintenance and replacement of the old battery to keep it in its functional routine. Since the past few days, his Toto-rickshaw has not been working properly, so he has not been able to generate any income. He wants to repair it and replace the battery as soon as possible. However due to a lack of money, he finds it difficult to cover the cost of a new battery.

Therefore, Ramija has requested a loan from Kiva’s partner BJS to help her husband to cover the cost of a battery for his Toto rickshaw. This will help her husband to continue his business.

Ramija is so thankful to Kiva and BJS.
