Union 1's story

Jean was brought up in a rural area of Haiti where 70% of the households are very poor.In 2012, he had the idea of gathering people in the community. Gradually, he met 30 people, mostly women and launched a savings group.

Last year, he was introduced to Zafen. His group received a loan that was repaid successfully. This year, Jean realizes that the community, though united, needs to have access to finances to improve their living conditions. He thinks if they have more income, gradually they can buy solar lamps for their children to study. That is why he is applying for a loan from Zafen. The committee board is portrayed from left to right: Mirlande (bookeeper), Jean in the middle as president and Ginette (secretary).
