Partner description:
East Meets West Foundation has relaunched as Thrive Networks on August 26th, 2014.Thrive Networks is changing the nonprofit business model -- integrating projects and pooling resources so organizations can work together to radically increase impact and hence establish an innovation network for social change. Kiva's formal partnership is now with the Thrive Networks entity, and the name of this partnership has been updated accordingly.
Thrive Networks is creating sustainable and catalytic solutions to difficult development problems. In particular, the organization focuses on providing clean water and sanitation, health services and education that poor communities could not otherwise afford. Since its founding over 26 years ago, the foundation has impacted nearly 6 million impoverished individuals and has invested over $106 million in development solutions.
Based in Oakland, California, Thrive Networks currently operates in Cambodia, India, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Timor-Leste in addition to Vietnam. Kiva will be working with the organization primarily in Vietnam to support clean water and sanitation initiatives.
Thrive Networks' Clean Water and Sanitation program provides a sustainable clean water supply to rural populations through the construction of school and village water systems. This is a subset of the community Hygiene Output-Based Aid (CHOBA) program, which is supported by many international development funders. The program is estimated to benefit over 1.7 million people in Vietnam and Cambodia.
In health care, the foundation works to reduce infant mortality and morbidity by helping hospitals acquire new, durable neonatal equipment, and state of the art staff training. The program targets common, preventable but too often deadly newborn illnesses like respiratory distress and jaundice.
Thrive Networks' dental program provides free dental care for poor children in Vietnam through clinic and outreach trips. Fees paid by regular customers subsidize care for the poor. And the organization is piloting new clinics this year and next in two of Cambodia’s poorest provinces.
On top of this, another foundation initiative called Operation Healthy Heart, provides financial assistance for impoverished families to treat children with heart defects. A two-year pilot program in Vietnam supports local screening and treatment referrals.
Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to help borrowers obtain quality sanitation equipment so they can build better, healthier futures.Repayment Performance on Kiva
