Kiva conducts regular, ongoing monitoring of all Lending Partners, but only posts status updates here in response to relevant, major changes at the partner.
Status Update- February 8th, 2023
Ecoblock (legal name), better known as Echale in México, is no longer fundraising due to serious credit/fraud concerns, and the partnership is likely to be closed.
While Ecoblock, has continued to collect repayments from borrowers it has failed to meet its payment obligations to Kiva lenders since December 2021 and currently has about $37,000 in outstanding debt that is now considered delinquent.
Ecoblock has repeatedly refused to respond to Kiva's numerous communication efforts regarding this default amount, including efforts from Kiva's legal representation. As such, Kiva has officially declared that Ecoblock is in default of its obligations under Section 4(c) of the Kiva. Kiva's policy is to consider legal options in a situation such as this, where the Lending Partner is non-responsive to Kiva's requests for repayment despite the partnership agreement between Kiva and the Lending Partner. In this case, Kiva will investigate legal options in Mexico.
