Kiva conducts regular, ongoing monitoring of all Lending Partners, but only posts status updates here in response to relevant, major changes at the partner.

Status update - August 2, 2018

Kiva has decided to finish the partnership with Hope Ukraine after nearly 12 years and more than $6.5MM in loans. We have appreciated our long, fruitful partnership with Hope Ukraine. However, we have recognized that Hope Ukraine is now more financially sustainable and sees a relatively high loan expiration rate on Kiva's website, therefore we believe that our funding is not the best suited for the organization moving forward. The partnership is now in inactive status, which means Hope Ukraine is no longer fundraising loans on Kiva, though Kiva fully expects the partner to continue to send repayments owed to Kiva lenders as long as the partner has an outstanding balance. We thank Hope Ukraine for the years of collaboration and wish them success in their future endeavors.

Partner Description:
HOPE International, a Christian faith-based nonprofit organization, has been operating in Ukraine since 1997. HOPE Ukraine was the organization’s first international venture. Since its inception, over 30,000 loans have been distributed throughout the country. Known as Nadiya (“hope”) in Ukrainian, the microfinance institution maintains 16 branches in towns across the country. The central administrative office is located in Kiev.

In addition to its core microfinance activities, HOPE also supports an active children's ministry in Ukraine in the form of “Tomorrow Clubs,” after-school programs that teach children the gospel through games, skits and songs. HOPE also runs children’s camps throughout the summer to serve communities where there are few churches or other opportunities for ministry.

HOPE Ukraine’s initial focus was on small traders and entrepreneurs. Over time, services were expanded to other client segments. Today HOPE Ukraine provides financing for the diverse needs of its clients – notably agriculture (open farming & greenhouses) – and home renovations, including for home energy saving purposes, while maintaining its support to small traders.
