Hog-raising combined with duck and chicken-raising are practical endeavors that surely alleviate food shortages in the community. Lerma has been in this business for many years, and she’s convinced that it is such a profitable enterprise that offers affordable food. Her income from this business helps sustain their daily needs. Despite some problems like lack of capital for feed and animal medicines, she continues with her business because of its contribution to food production. She lives in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental together with her foreman husband, Dominic, and their children.

Now that Lerma aims to distribute a bigger volume of affordable pork, eggs, and duck and chicken meat, she wants to buy additional piglets, ducklings and chicks to raise. She would like to ask for a PHP 30,000 loan for this purpose. She will also buy vitamins and medicines for these animals.

In the future, she wishes to have a big piggery and poultry business. She really doesn’t stop dreaming.

She shares her experiences and aspirations with her co-fellowship* members at CCT Credit Cooperative. They regularly meet every week to share stories about their lives and businesses and to draw strength and inspiration from the fellowship and the Word of God.

*All CCT community partners/clients are organized into fellowship groups that meet on a weekly basis. A fellowship group is composed of 15 to 30 community partners. The fellowship groups gather each week to study the Word of God, build social capital, and pay microfinance loans.
