A loan helped a member to buy two more cows, feed to fatten them up and then hopes to sell them for a good price.

Los Positos Group's story

Friendship Bridge serves over 22,000 impoverished women in Guatemala so that they can find their own solutions to poverty. With the “Microcredit Plus” Program of the organization, that combines small loans and education, the women face a brighter future, improving not only their lives but those of their families. KIVA investors play an important role in the program by funding loans for these very deserving women.

The nine women of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Los Positos” live in Quiche in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. They range in age from 21 to 45, are married and the majority of them have children who are enrolled in school.

Rosa, who is 24 years old, is the President of the Trust Bank. She is married and has three children who are 3,4 and 6 years of age. She has realized success in her animal husbandry business. Rosa buys and sells chickens, pigs and cows. She also embroiders beautiful traditional textiles. She is requesting a loan to buy two more cows, feed to fatten them up and then hopes to sell them for a good price.

A Friendship Bridge Facilitator meets with the women at each of their monthly meetings. After transacting business on the loans, the Facilitator shares beneficial information with the ladies using games, pictures and diagrams. There is often a lot of laughter and giggling as they are so excited to be learning new things.

KIVA investors are highly valued by Rosa and the women in the Trust Bank. With their loans and education, they are poised to step into a brighter future, benefitting themselves, their families and their community in the Western Highlands of Guatemala! Thank you, KIVA investors!
