A loan helped a member to purchase items such as cereals, cosmetics, etc. to expand her petty shop business.

Chanura Lup Group's story

Sana is a mother of three children and owns a petty shop in her locality in Manipal. She started her own business with a small capital in order to support her family. Her husband is a cultivator who earns INR 5,500 per month. With this income, they cannot keep up with their family expenses. Sana’s petty shop business earns a profit of INR 100 to 150 per day. Due to a lack of capital funds, she cannot expand her business.

An expansion in her business would increase her income by INR 1,500 per month, so she decided to form a group consisting of five members coming from the same economic conditions and decided to avail a loan. She will use the loan to purchase and sell cereals, cosmetics, detergent powder, biscuits, etc. It will help the petty shop expand its business.

Lata, Kunje, Angangcha and Tombisana (the rest of the members of the group) also engage in income generation activities. They too run their own businesses in Manipur. Just like Sana, they lack the funds to expand their respective businesses. A loan will help the group members expand their businesses and enhance their income earning capacity. Together they seek a loan of INR 40,000. They thank their lenders for the financial support.

In this group: Lata, Sana, Kunje, Angangcha, Tombisana
