Freedom 2 Group's story

Comfort is the representative for the Freedom 2 group, which is in its tenth loan cycle with ID-Ghana as a part of the Teshie branch. The group is made up of seven members, who have a variety of different businesses, such as food vending, buying and selling beans, selling slippers, and offering hairdressing services. This loan will benefit each of these micro-businesswomen, including Comfort.

Comfort joined ID-Ghana five years ago at the invitation of a friend, who is a client of the institution. Comfort is a food vendor who prepares and sells kenkey (cooked corn paste) and fried fish. She reports that she learned this business from her mother 20 years ago.

The loan she is currently requesting will allow her to increase her business capital by buying more corn dough, fish, cooking oil, and firewood, all of which she will use to prepare kenkey and fried fish to offer for sale to her customers. This is a local dish from the Teshie area, and its popularity is bringing her more and more customer patronage. As a single mother, Comfort is grateful that her business allows her to generate income to support herself and her child.

When asked what she likes about ID-Ghana, Comfort says that she likes the health and nutrition education that the institution offers.
