A loan helped to purchase organic fertilizer, organic pesticides, coffee plants and other materials needed to convert her coffee crop to organic.

Gloria Argentina's story

Gloria is 63 years old. She is the single mother of 6 children, and for her whole life she has worked growing coffee. For some 5 years, she has certified her coffee with the fair trade and Rain Forest seals. She sells through the COCAFCAL cooperative, of which she is a member. She says that her greatest dream is to be able to see all of her children improved and with good opportunities to have a dignified life.

In the last few years, organic coffee production has become important in the region since it offers better markets for the coffee in addition to contributing to make the coffee plantations more sustainable and productive. For these reasons, Gloria wants to convert her coffee crop to organic production.

Gloria asks for a loan to carry out the process of organic certification with new plants. With the earnings she gets for the organic coffee she sells, Gloria expects to be able to cover the family's expenses.

A loan will help Gloria to have better prices for her coffee in addition to making her crop more environmentally friendly and offer extra income to improve her family's life.
