A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer to improve harvests of maize.

Benjamin's Group's story

Pictured above is Benjamin, who is representing 14 farmers in Webuye District, Kenya as group leader. He is married and is a father to four children. He is known by his community as a very hardworking individual.

Initially, Benjamin joined One Acre Fund in 2011 because he wanted to have access to quality training and acquire new farming methods. Since he joined the program, he says that his life has improved, especially because he has been able to consistently feed his family. With the profits from the coming harvesting season, Benjamin plans to send his children to school.

Between the 14 farmers in Benjamin's Group, a total of nine acres of land will be planted using the maize seeds and fertilizer purchased with the loan. Additionally, some of the farmers in the group will be purchasing solar lights, so the group will also receive a total of 11 solar lights with this loan.
