A loan helped to expand and improve her business by purchasing fish in larger quantities.

Efua's story

Efua B. is a married woman with two children. Sadly, she notes that she has received no formal education. Her husband is a fisherman.

Efua and her husband are in the fish-selling industry. Specifically, her husband buys fish from other fishermen and brings the fish home for processing and preservation purposes, and then Efua sells the fish at the market at Tatermu in Elmina. Efua explains that she has been in this line of business since 1998 and that she uses her income to support her husband in paying rent, utility bills, and other basic living expenses of their family.

Efua is now seking a loan in order to buy fish in larger quantities for processing and re-sale. With the expected increase in profits from her expanded business, Efua plans to reinvest in her business so as to continue to meet the financial needs of her ever-expanding family.
