A loan helped a member to buy wool for weaving.

Bethsy Lom Group's story

Hoinu, the profiled borrower of the group, is an honest and a faithful single woman of 42 years. She lives with her elder brother, his wife and his children at Lingsiphai village. Hoinu is pictured with her hand raised.

She was supported by her elder brother before she learned the skills of weaving. As time passed by, her brother could no longer support her needs with the addition of new members in the family, including his two children. It became a turning point for Hoinu to start earning her income, as she had been dependent on her brother for a very long time. She decided to learn weaving skills from her friends in the neighbourhood, and finally, she could start weaving on her own at her place and start earning.

After she started earning, she also helped her brother’s family by providing basic requirements for the children at home. She weaves traditional shawls, which are very much in demand. She could not meet the demand on time since she lacks capital to buy the materials required for her weaving. She aspires to weave as much as the demand made by the customers.

The Kiva loan will be used to buy wool and other materials required for weaving. She will be able to save some amount of her earnings for emergency purposes. She also aspires to buy household furniture and a set of dishes in the future.

All the group members thank the lenders for their generosity. They will make the maximum utilization of the loan in their businesses.
