A loan helped to buy more goods to sell at his store, including salt, soap, and sugar.

Joseph's story

Joseph is 48 years old and lives in the town of Kyenjojo, in the Fort Portal region of Uganda. He is married and has six children, four of them currently in school. For the past 10 years, Joseph has been working hard to manage his retail shop, where he sells beers, sodas, salt, soap, and sugar.

To help expand his business, Joseph has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more beers, sodas, salt, soap, and sugar. This will help Joseph to generate greater profits. Joseph hopes that in the future, he will be able to enhance the business.

Joseph is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Joseph, who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
