Grupo Alfa Group's story

The group “Alfa” is located in a community that is two hours away from the closest town. Most of its inhabitants work in sowing, growing and harvesting sugar cane, and collecting natural rubber or nanche [a strongly scented fruit], depending on the season. In this place, it is possible to enjoy nature, meditate and most of all, find inspiration.

The group members are Fernando, who sells bread; Nidia, who sells desserts; Irma, who sews; Pablo, who sells tortillas, corn and dough; Mariano, who sells groceries; and Viridiana, who sells phones.

Irma has been sewing for some years now. She has always liked this activity. When she was a little girl, she played pretending to be a fashion designer. Her dream came true. Irma started to make garments for her and her family until she gained enough experience to exploit her talent and receive an income.

Irma will use this loan to buy threads, buttons, needles, stickpins, reels for her sewing machine, ribbons and elastic bands. With her profits and her husband’s salary, they cover the home expenses. Irma wants to thank her group mates for inviting her to the group, and Kiva and VisionFund Mexico for giving her the opportunity to expand her business.

Irma is wearing a white shirt and loose hair.
