A loan helped to buy a cow for her existing business.

Suman's story

Suman hails from Maynaguri. She is a married woman and a 20-year-old mother of two adorable children (one son and one daughter) who always bring a pleasant feeling to her. She lives with her family in a village named Mouyamari in the district of Jalpaiguri. She attended school until grade seven and had to give up education, as her parents could not afford her educational expenses, and got married at a very tender age. One of her children attends school; the other is too young.

Suman's husband, Monoranjan, is a car driver. Being a father of two children, he has lots of responsibilities, and feeding this four-member family requires a lot of hard work. Hence, he has to put in extra efforts to comfortably take care of his family, but his low income is the main challenge.

So, in order to help her husband, Suman engaged in a milk-selling business. She rears one cow and sells milk to her neighbours. She has achieved a reputation with her customers, as she sells milk at a cheaper rate.

Suman is a visionary and enterprising woman and has always wanted to do dairy farming on a large scale, but one of the challenges she has faced is the lack of enough capital. That is why she is kindly seeking a loan from BJS (Kiva’s partner) to buy a dairy cow. Through the loan, Suman is confident that her business will increase, as well as her dream of providing a better education and secure future for her children. This will be achieved with the income from her business.

Suman is relieved to know that her life can be secured through lenders such as Kiva and BJS, who help small-scale and aspiring women such as Suman. She is grateful to them.
